De l’importance d’écrire des séquences, des scènes de la vie quotidienne

The scenes of daily life

Hello to all. That is, it is off to a new article with the : sequence of the daily life what’s the use ?!

after a little less than a month of tweaking and launching the platform scenario+. I would like to thank you all for your enthusiasm, your generosity and friendship that you have shown.

I know that scenario+ has not been as happy. Since a system with charge, this was quite disappointing. This is the only way for me to properly track your projects scenario because it takes time and allows me to support you as it should be.

Then to reassure everyone : No “How to Make A Movie “does not become paid, Not” How to Make A Movie “ doesn’t stop and No, I’m not going to stop to answer your questions ;o)

In short, nothing changes !

For this first article in the month of July, I would like to go back a little bit on the scenario. I’m a fan of movies and series in general, currently, I’m back to the series 24 returns for 12 episodes. This allowed me to review the first season that I find extraordinary.

Jack Bauer has no bladder

The principle of 24, it is to follow the adventures of Jack Bauer in real time, that is to say, its facts and gestures, as well as the plot takes place over 24 hours. Each episode lasts an hour, in short, we follow his progress minute by minute. Except that for us, in France, the episodes last only 40 minutes (or 42 minutes) since that in the USA the series is interspersed with pubs. The pubs + the episode lasts all of an hour.

All this to say that Jack was not idle, to such a point that it never goes to the toilet, he eats almost no and do not drink almost never. Then one can say that he has problems of transit and as it does not eat, he is not fussed on that side. As he never drank, almost never, it must not urinate.

Result, Jack Bauer is a princess !

sequence of the daily life it serves to what ?

It is true that I do tons, because in the film, scenes of everyday life are legion. But what use are they ?

The scenes of restaurant, family meals…in short, the scenes of meals in general are there to sit a situation. But they are made for the characters to speak, so that the information reaches the audience without which this would not would have no meaning or very little.

I especially like a scene from the film Besson. In Nikita, Besson takes his characters in the restaurant (from the gare de Lyon, the train bleu, I think). Nikita has just completed her training and Bob, the trainer, takes her to celebrate outside in one of the best restaurants of Paris. But what she believes to be a reward becomes, in fact, a put to the test.

This scene is a good example of a scene of daily life. The characters have a need to feed, to go to the bathroom, etc… Even if neither Nikita, neither bob does not eat, it induces to the audience that they are people like us. It also tells us that the character of Bob will stop at nothing.

Attention : If you write scenes of meals or daily life, it must serve the story, the plot. Do I not put a scene where your character does the dishes, just to induce the fact that your characters are like us. It is critical that the scene or scenes that you are going to write and embed in your story do something. For the viewer enters the intimacy of your characters, it is necessary that they also learn things, if not the intimacy becomes routine.

Jack Bauer is there really a princess ?

Yes, but this is not the only hero of TV series that never goes to the potty. However, in the film, even if the scenes of toilets are not legions, some directors, writers use them in their story.

The first that comes to me spontaneously, it is that ” is There a cop to save the queen “, where after having made a speech, Frank Drebin goes to relieve himself in a urinal, forgetting to unplug her microphone, so that you can enjoy this moment of intimacy to the audience of journalists who just listen to it.

This film is a parody, a comedy, but the scene of the toilet is often used to approximate unconsciously the hero of the spectators but also to give it a touch humorous. I could also quote you ” Mary at all costs “, where at the beginning of the movie, Ted (Ben Stiller) is going to relieve the bladder and squeezes the skin of the testicles by the time he goes back to his fly.

I remember that during the filming of an episode of ” little murders of Agatha Christie” , one of the characters complained to the director that it was already two times, in two episodes, we saw him on the throne, and that it was starting to do well. Even if it was on the tone of the humor (whatever…), the toilets remain taboo.

Other films also use the toilet to show the absurdity or reality of life. I think of the scene in the toilet in Pulp fiction where Travolta is actually down then he made the big commission.

Some scenes support the next addict, destructive of character as in Trainspotting where Ewan Mac Grégor is forced to dig a toilet clogged with excrement in order to find packets of drugs that have fallen to the bottom. I advise you to see this scene, because the bias and the staging of the director are absolutely incredible.

What should you remember from all of this ?

You can, you must, put scenes of daily life : Eating, sleeping, driving, doing the dishes, urinate, make love etc…But are you saying that this should serve or support what you’re trying to tell. Sometimes some of these scenes may say things that you’d be hard pressed to state with any of the dialogues , or the dialogues would make it too heavy.

I am amused to take toilet as an example because I do not know for what reason it is a bit of a taboo. But I wanted to show you thatthe use of these scenes can be a good thing and that you should not prevent them from doing so if you feel that this may be good for your scenario.
