You cannot renew a licence unless you have a current licence in that sector. If your licence has already expired, you must apply for a new licence.
Do I need a first aid certificate to renew my SIA licence?
From 1 October 2021, you will also need to do this if you are renewing your licence. The qualification must be an Emergency First Aid at Work qualification or equivalent.

Yes, but only in some cases. You could work as soon as you receive an acknowledgement letter from the SIA that your license is being processed. However, most security companies will not accept SIA reply letters acknowledging your SIA license application, and will instead require an SIA license.
