How are mini lights wired?
Christmas lights are wired as a “series” of lights along a single electrical path. That means that the first bulb must past electricity to the next, sequentially, from first to last in the series for ANY of them to light up.
Why are mini lights wired in series?
When lights are attached in series, the electricity passes from the power source to the first light, and then from light to light until it returns to the power source. As we mentioned earlier, when a circuit is incomplete, or open, electricity fails to pass through any of the wire, causing all the lights to go out.

How many light strands can you put together?
1440/100= 14.4. Therefore, your circuit can only handle 14 incandescent light strings connected together. On the other hand, if an average LED string light set uses 10 watts, then 1440/10=144. That means you can have 144 light strings connected together if they’re LED!
How are light strings wired?

Can I cut 3 wire Christmas lights?
Short Answer: No, you can’t lengthen or shorten standard series-wired incandescent and LED Christmas tree light strings that are made with 2 or 3-wire harnesses. Even if they work at first, they won’t last long.
