The expiration date is usually about one year from the date of purchase. If your Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard expires, you have two years from the expiration date to transfer any remaining money to a new card.
How much does a $25 MetroCard cost?
All ticket machines and ticket offices offer separate $25 MetroCard ($26.25 value). A $1 fee will apply to the separate $25 MetroCard ($26.25 total cost) sold by Metro-North. This fee does not apply to our Monthly/$50 MetroCard and Round Trip/$5.50 MetroCard.

If commutation tickets are submitted for refund before their expiration, the discount is forfeited, and we must deduct the proper combination of one-way and/or weekly fares for the period the ticket has been in the customer’s possession.
