There are 2 bays in Akumal plus the lagoon. I highly recommend taking children to the lagoon. It’s clear, no waves, fish near the entrance of the lagoon where the water is brackish, etc. Our kids loved it and we have gone back several times. Half Moon Bay is rocky and has a reef – it can be a bit of a risk for children getting out there.

We had our own snorkel gear and wanted to avoid the crowds at the regular sea turtle snorkel in Akumal so our driver suggested lunch at La Lunita in Half Moon Bay, Akumal. So glad we did. After an amazing lunch right on the beach, over looking the azure blue water and white sand, we geared up and hit the water.
