1917. Helped by his two sons, Cal and Aaron, Adam Trask operates his land in Salinas Valley. The two children believe that their mother died, while she fled to the birth of twins. Cal, the son misunderstood, is convinced that his father does not love him and that he is himself the incarnation of evil (he sees his mother). One day, he learns that his parent lives in the next town, and that she is a bar ” fishy “, in fact, a brothel. At the same time, Adam, the father, will be ruined by doing business. Anecdote :
– Originally, players planned to play Aron and Cal are Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift but Brando is not interested in any of the two roles, and Clift wants to play as Aron. Elia Kazan decides to call of the unknown : up to the tests, the developer hesitates between James Dean and Paul Newman to portray the character of Cal. Elia Kazan chose Dean in the game more full and more animal.
