The film chronicles the budding friendship, historically proven, between queen Victoria and her groom scottish John Brown.

Deeply affected since the death of her husband, the prince consort Albert, the queen was in mourning, avoids public appearances and is disinterested in political life. His private secretary, his doctor and his ladies of company spare but fail to pull it out of his isolation. The secretary did come to the castle of Windsor, a groom of the late prince, whose dedication vis-à-vis the latter is known to the queen. Very quickly, the directness and harshness of John Brown’s appeal to Victoria, little accustomed to such breaches of the protocol. For his part, the servant is sensitive to the friendship that shows him the sovereign. They are a set of long horse rides on the field of Balmoral, where the Court had moved. Little by little, Brown invests beyond its charge and takes a personal interest in the safety of the queen. The influence that it has on it is the birth of the rumor, to the point that it is nicknamed ” Mrs. Brown.”


Judi Dench was nominated as best actress at the 70th academy awards of the cinema and has received two awards for this film :

• BAFTA for best actress

• Golden Globe for best actress in a drama film
