What is BCIP NBT?

What is BCIP NBT?

BCIP/NBT is a widely used set of chromogenic substrates for the enzyme label alkaline phosphatase (AP). Once catalyzed by AP, the product of BCIP (5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl phosphate) further reacts with NBT (nitro blue tetrazolium) to produce an insoluble precipitate that is dark blue to purple in color.

What is BCIP used for?

BCIP (5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-phosphate) is used in conjunction with NBT (nitro blue tetrazolium) for the colorimetric detection of alkaline phosphatase activity.
