What is EOP UC Berkeley?
The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) provides assistance through mentorship, academic programs, financial assistance, counseling/advising, and other campus support services to those who are first-generation college students, and/or from low-income and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
How do you qualify for EOP Berkeley?
Undergraduates who meet one or more of the following criteria are considered EOP:
- Low-income: Pell Grant or Dream Act Scholarship eligible as verified by the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.
- First-generation College Student: Parent(s) have not graduated from a four-year college or university in the United States.

EOP helps students balance their personal responsibilities with the academic demands of UC Berkeley. Students receive support transitioning to the university, selecting courses, choosing a major, understanding financial aid, exploring career options, and preparing for life after Berkeley.
How do you know if you’re in EOP?
While completing the online UC Undergraduate Application for Admission, applicants can apply to EOP by following the instructions on the application. Once admitted, students can confirm their EOP status by viewing a link to “EOP information” on their MyAdmissions.

The EOP, overseen by the White House Chief of Staff, has traditionally been home to many of the President’s closest advisers.
Does UCLA have EOP?
AAP was created in 1971 out of the consolidation of UCLA’s Educational Opportunity (EOP) Program and High Potential Program (HPP), two early efforts to widen access for students from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Approximately 27% of the undergraduate student population are AAP members.
Is EOP financial aid?
EOP students are eligible to receive an EOP grant if they qualify for financial aid, however they are not guaranteed to receive one. Students must complete and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other documents as required by the Financial Aid Office at the campus they have been admitted to.

Does EOP offer in-person or virtual advising?
EOP will continue to maintain virtual advising through the end of Fall 2021. All students can directly access our team via our Virtual Community Space and Virtual Same-Day Advising appointments. We are excited to begin limited in-person advising appointments at the start of the Spring 2022 semester.
