The Indian Pacific serves three course meals, three times a day, from fresh fish to beef eye fillet, and there were always great veggie options too. The wine menus were also excellent, with Australian wines sourced from local producers along the route.

Great Southern Rail, which operates the famous long-distance trains including The Ghan and Indian Pacific, does not permit pets. NSW Trains and Queensland Rail also clearly prohibit pets.

Luggage allowance for Gold Service is a generous 2 x 30kg per guest and Platinum Service allows for a very generous 3 x 30kg allowance per guest in addition to one piece of hand luggage plus a garment bag, cabin bag and/or briefcase per person for both service levels.
