The 535D is a bit more over engineered than the 530D – bigger brakes, a few engine tweeks that aid reliability, cast manifold that generally don’t crack (530D don’t have these as standard) and as the turbos aren’t variable vein, they are much more reliable. You also generally get a much better average spec.

What’s the difference between a 535 and a 530d?
The 535 has the slightly gruffer engine and a bit more go. I noticed the biggest difference when moving away from standstill when the 535 was much more responsive. My preference was the 530d with more bits as it 535 was noticeably more expensive to buy.
