[CRITICAL] TOGETHER

History : You remember when you were seventeen years old ? Xiao Yang, a high school student seventeen-year-old, is the confidant of his entourage. His father, owner of a small printing press, meeting Li, the girl next door, which is soon to be married. During this time, his mother moves closer to Shi-An, tailor’s shop next door. In his loneliness, Yang observes the romances that surround him, and begins to read the letters of love of which he is the steed…

Take the time if possible, read the synopsis, before you see the film, you will not need to be dropped for more than an hour because you can’t make the difference between the father and the lover, between the daughter and the neighbor, between the son and his 4 friends… not that they are physically interchangeable, far from it, but because the story just to anchor the protagonists, and their personalities other than through their few actions. After having seen ten examples of consequential damages that may suggest the cinema of taiwan’s best, and, in particular, in terms of character and empathy, you can’t help to say that there is here a problem of implementation in TOGETHER. Oddly, the short format seems to be THE way of expressing ideas, whether it be sensitivity, depth of character, décor, social, scene, or other. The two feature films presented during the Meetings of the Cinema to the Taiwanese do we have finally, only moderately convinced.

Moderately, since it must be confessed that after finally, at the end of 1h10min, determined what really mattered to each character (the other, thus justifying the title TOGETHER), it’s finally starting to attach to them and to feel something other than boredom polished. The four love stories added to the portrait of the one-who-the-lie-all suddenly become endearing, even if absolutely nothing original is offered to us. Simple : the last half-hour, the impression of being in front of a Love Actually to the taiwanese is strong, with its winners, its losers, its characters all beautiful when in love, its serenades in the rain, his sublimations of love against all odds, the heroes of the day – a sentimental point of view.

Exactly as for Design 7 love, the other feature discovered through the festival, it is difficult to dispose of 8 excellent short films screened in the preamble, giving to see a fascinating film in taiwan. TOGETHER is not this kind of films rich in ambitions of cinema’s transcendent and in a short time its own medium… It is just a long, feel good movie that does that to half.
