Are plasma torches interchangeable?
Today’s plasma cutting systems are no different. Power supplies are smaller, more capable, and reliable, as are the cutting torches. There was a reason plasma torches were designed the way they were, and it had to do with the mechanism that starts the plasma arc.
Are plasma torches universal?
The First Universal Plasma Torch! The 1Torch® RPT® torch is the first plasma cutting torch that performs with virtually all plasma cutting power supplies. Install the 1Torch on your current plasma power supply and you immediately benefit from the latest in high performance torch technology available today.
Is a plasma torch actually plasma?
The basic plasma cutting process involves creating an electrical channel of superheated, electrically ionized gas i.e. plasma from the plasma cutter itself, through the workpiece to be cut, thus forming a completed electric circuit back to the plasma cutter through a grounding clamp.
Does a plasma torch need gas?
Do plasma cutters use gas? Yes. All plasma cutting systems—including air plasma cutters—use gas.
What are the types of plasma torches?
However, these types of setups are rare as most common non-conductive materials do not require the precise cutting ability of a plasma torch.
What are the two types of plasma cutters?
Types of Plasma Cutting Nearly all plasma cutting systems fall under two categories: Conventional and Precision plasma systems. Conventional Plasma Systems – Typically use shop air as the plasma gas, and the shape of the arc is determined by the nozzle on the torch.
Can a plasma cutter cut through paint?
Although plasma can cut through painted metal, it does require a solid connection on a clean part of the workpiece as close as practical to the work area. 11. It is difficult to cleanly stop and continue a long cut.
Is a plasma cutter better than a torch?
Cutting precision: Plasma typically cuts quickly and with minimal slag, providing smooth cuts with a narrower kerf than what’s produced by oxy-fuel torches. Better cutting on shaped metals: When the workpiece has angles, channels or tubes, plasma cutting can provide faster and more precise cutting performance.
Is a plasma cutter hotter than the sun?
The heat of a plasma cutter can reach an impressive temperature of 25,000 degrees Celsius. To put this into perspective, it is hotter than the surface of the sun which sits at a comfortable 5,505 degrees Celsius.

What is the best torch for plasma cutting machines?
Longevity PT-31 air-cooled torch for 40 Amp / 50 Amp Plasma Cutting machines. Longevity PT-31 air-cooled torch for 40 Amp / 50 Amp Plasma Cutting machines. *** After ordering this torch, please send an email to [email protected] specifying what Plasma Cutter model you have (pictures preferred), so we can match the connectors to fit your machine.
Will a Pt31 fit on this wheel?
The wheels need to be a little larger this would allow for proper fitment and give a little space between the tip and the metal It fits the PT31 perfect except when it’s on correctly the wheels are useless and the tip touches the metal. If you adjust it so the tip doesn’t touch then the fit is no longer perfectly fitted.
Is the Circle cutting option worth it on a Pt31?
The circle cutting option is nice but not the primary reason for my purchase. This well engineered and executed design is the only standoff for a PT31 torch. Good at making my job faster.
