In reality older than 3 000 years ago, it must, every 7 days, to drink human blood to maintain with time. It uses, to do this, a small pendant in the shape of a key of the Ankh that she wears around her neck and which conceals a sharp blade, which allows him to cut the throats of his victims. She offered, there are three hundred years, immortality to her husband. However, if it can give immortality to those she has chosen, she cannot guarantee that they will always love, then that love is the ultimate ingredient of a subtle alchemy, which assures them of not getting old. The end of the twentieth century, after three centuries of common life and happy, John Blaylock begins to feel the reality of an aging and accelerated, and will stop most, without leading to his death. In effect, Miriam fell under the spell of the seductive Sarah Roberts (Susan Sarandon), a doctor who specializes in aging, which accesses a awareness new with his latest book. John tries to contact her to try to escape the inevitable.
Anecdotes
First filmmaking of Tony Scott, brother of Ridley Scott of which we feel the influence to each plan, the film, despite its distribution, prestigious, was a critical and commercial failure on its release in the dining room. Dark intrigue and death-dealing as well as a sophisticated aesthetics and ice have failed to find an audience. But the work won over the years, a special aura in the context of american cinema of the 1980s, horror films and gay cinema, being also recovered by the gothic movement.
At the beginning of the film, you can hear a famous song of the group of gothic rock Bauhaus, Bela Lugosi”s dead, in a nod to one of the most famous interpreters of movies of the vampire.
The film includes a scene of sapphic love between Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon. The scene has become famous in part thanks to the duo of women extract from the opera Lakmé by Léo Delibes, which one hears during that Miriam Blaylock transmits its power to Sarah Roberts by a gentle bite to the crook of the arm. Susan Sarandon comments on this passage in the documentary film of 1995 The Celluloid Closet, devoted to homosexuality in the cinema, including hollywood. Predators is one of those few films that have made Catherine Deneuve the status, enjoyed by the actress herself according to his words, icon, lesbian, and gay.
This is the last film in which Bessie Love, the former star of the silent.
Tony Scott produced between 1997 and 2000, a television series, also titled The Predators in French and The Hunger in English, and devoted to the theme of vampirism. David Bowie took the role of narrator in the second season. Despite a title and a theme in common, the series did not resume not the story, nor the characters in the film.
The producers wanted to the original that Alan Parker runs the film, after the success of The Wall. But Parker suggested that he hire a newcomer, a product of the advertising : Tony Scott.
The end of the film differs from the novel on which it is based. The producers didn’t want the original ending in which the character of Miriam, moved to San Francisco to start again a quiet life, with impunity. They wanted an ending in which his character is ” punished “.
