Can you use a PA as a guitar amp?
Assuming it is an active PA speaker, yes. But you are going to run your guitar through your PC or HELIX etc so that you get a proper guitar amp sound. Also, a 1×15 is not a good choice, either a 1×12 or 2×12 is going to sound better as 12s are the common driver for an electric guitar.
What’s the point of a DI box?
The primary function of a direct box is to convert the unbalanced high-impedance signal from an instrument to a balanced low-impedance signal that is compatible with a P.A. or recording system.
Why put a mic in front of an amp?
In recording situations, putting a mic in front of a guitar or bass amplifier will record a strong, isolated audio signal from the amp. In live situations, placing a mic in front of an amp will help reinforce the sound of the amp by allowing its sound to be projected by the PA system and not just the amp speaker.
Can I plug a microphone directly into an amplifier?
So yes, a microphone can often be plugged directly into a powered speaker amp and work just fine. To properly plug a microphone into a powered speaker, plug the microphone into the mic input of the speaker.
