Our editor Arkham is a member of the jury SyFy, it was a sort of reserve duty about our opinions on the films… which does not prevent us from talking about it ! Except that unlike the other zombies movie selection, The girl with all the gifts, this time we do take not on the topic.
Therefore, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES is a film directed by Burr Steers, known for having directed episodes of TV series (Big Love, the L Word, Weeds), as well as two films with Zac Efron young. His new feature-length film tells the story of… Well, of Pride and prejudice. With zombies. Here it is.

That said, contrary to what the trailer suggests, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES is not really a film to see for its nenettes badass and costumes that décapitent of the zombie with the shovel during action scenes, the simplicity. Because if there has indeed, and if they are incredibly poorly mounted, and carried out (the action scenes), not counting the FX and make-up not quite convincing, there is not really interest. PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES is, above ALL, a “replay modern ‘ d’‘Pride and prejudice’. Understand: with a lot of affectations and looks in corner, games of seduction and pretense, of sham independence emotional or social, small upheavals intimate that build a timeless love story. A bit like the version of Joe Wright with Keira gnagna, it is mainly a way to showcase the immortality of this romantic tale, how well he could adapt to any universe, any staging.
In this, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES also offers something quite unique, by creating a mythology of the zombie, perfectly adapting to the novel’s original (and not the reverse), keeping all considerations of social or geographical and thus, the relationship particular between the various protagonists. Elizabeth, Darcy, Wickham, Bingley, Jane, Lady Catherine… Belittle a middle-class local becomes him explode cum at the carbine, a verbal sparring between the [love] turns into fighting, the aristocracy ultimate materializes in the fact of being protected from the infected,… in Short: everything is there, but distorted by the prism of the zombie film. Its great quality but also its limits, of course.
