Orangeville was named in honor of Orange Seely, the first pioneer to settle the area. With a small beginning of four families in 1879, the town has prospered and increased to an approximate population of 1,341. Early residents engaged in farming, stock raising, and mining in order to provide for their families.

Orangeville was founded in 1878 and was originally known as Upper Castle Dale. In 1879 when a post office was established, it was named Orangeville after Orange Seely, the first man called to settle Castle Valley.
