Is flying a paramotor illegal?
Our sport is basically self-regulated so you are not required by law to be a certified pilot. However, proper training is required to safely fly and navigate ever more crowded and sensitive airspace.
Can I land a paramotor anywhere?
Can you takeoff and land a paramotor anywhere? You can launch and land a paramotor anywhere that you have permission to do so. A simple knock on the landowners door is all it takes to get permission, if they refuse, move on and try somewhere else.
Can anyone fly a paramotor?
In the United States, you do not need a license to paramotor. People need to work to get a pilot’s license so they can fly. With paramotoring, you don’t have to become a certified pilot. Even though you are not going to be certified in any way, it is very important to be adequately trained.

Can you fly a paramotor cross country?
Many cross country flights will require fuel stops, and these will also need to be planned. This way you can drop off a can of fuel before the flight, or get somebody to meet you there with a few litres. If you fly a 2-stroke paramotor, remember to take some oil with you to mix at the fuel station!
Can you teach yourself to paramotor?
Yes you can teach yourself to paramotor, but that doesn’t mean that you should! Although thousands of people have successfully taught themselves to paramotor, many others have been seriously injured while self training. There’s a lot more to paramotoring than just taking off for a 30 minute flight and then landing.
Are paramotors worth it?
This sport is expensive, and when you first start paramotoring it is a big investment to make. But once you have the equipment, it will last you for many years, and for hundreds of hours of flight. So yes it does cost more than buying a nice car, but running it is super cheap, and a car can’t fly now can it!

Paramotor training costs vary depending on the school, syllabus and location. At the affordable end of the scale expect to pay around £1000, with top level training priced at £2500+. For kit, expect to pay £8,000 to £10,000 all in.
