5 speed is just fine. 6 speed is overrated. The 6 speed came with the 96 cu. in engine that has better heads, and on some models a wider rear tire. If you like that sort of thing, the wider tires cost more, but I think they look cooler. With the 6-speed you lost the carb though.

The 5 speed is a stronger unit as compared to the 6 speed in a few areas. The 6 speed if you notice when going on and off the gas while holding a slight tension on the clutch lever, the lever will move a bit. This is caused by flex in the trap door.
