What is Decapeptyl 3mg used for?
In men, Decapeptyl injections are given to treat prostate cancer. They are used for locally advanced cancers and those that have spread. The injections might be used on their own, or alongside surgery or radiotherapy. In women, Decapeptyl injections are mainly used to treat endometriosis and fibroids.
When do you take Decapeptyl injection?
The usual dosage of Decapeptyl is one injection under the skin of your lower abdomen once-daily. Treatment can be started on day 2 or 3, or on day 21 to 23, of the menstrual cycle. After 2 to 4 weeks of Decapeptyl treatment, other hormones (gonadotropins) will be given in order to stimulate follicle growth.
What is Decapeptyl used for IVF?
DECAPEPTYL is used in assisted reproductive technology (ART) cycles to reduce the risk of cycle cancellation. It does this by preventing an early surge in luteinising hormone (LH), which can occur in women undergoing ART.
Is Decapeptyl a chemotherapy?
Chemotherapy and hormone treatment This means that if you’re having hormone therapy such as Zoladex ®, Prostap® Decapeptyl® or Firmagon®, you will have chemotherapy along with your hormone therapy. Chemotherapy can also be used if you’ve had hormone therapy and it isn’t controlling the prostate cancer any longer.
Can I get pregnant after Decapeptyl?
Five of the ten patients treated by Decapeptyl and myomectomy achieved successful pregnancies and delivered. Among the women treated with Decapeptyl without myomectomy, only one patient conceived.
How long does Decapeptyl last?
You should not need to be treated for more than 6 months. If you are being treated for breast cancer, the recommended dose of Decapeptyl SR 3 mg is one injection into a muscle, every 4 weeks (28 days). Treatment may last up to five years.
Can Decapeptyl be given late?
Decapeptyl SR 22.5mg should be administered as precisely as possible in regular 6 monthly periods. An exceptional delay of the injection date for a few days (169 ± 3 days) does not influence the results of the therapy. After discontinuation of treatment the development of puberty characteristics will occur.
Can Decapeptyl cause bleeding?
You may have some vaginal bleeding in the first month of treatment. After that your periods normally stop. Tell your doctor if you have bleeding after the first month of treatment. Your periods should start about 5 months after the last injection.

After Decapeptyl is administered it will stimulate your ovarian hormones in the first week or two and then ‘switch off’ your ovaries, so a reversible menopause occurs. You may feel your endometrios pain is lessened, or gone, when the menopause phase happens.
How early can Decapeptyl be given?
Decapeptyl is given by injection into the buttock area. The first dose is often given in gynaecology clinic by our nurses, after that you can have it from your GP practice nurse. You should begin your treatment on the first 2–4 days of your period to minimise the likelihood of taking the drug while pregnant.
Does Decapeptyl shrink fibroids?
There is strong research evidence to show that, for myomectomy or hysterectomy procedure, pre-operative GnRHa (such as Decapeptyl, Zoladex, Prostap) therapy reduces the size of fibroids and the total blood loss during the operation (i.e. less risk of need for blood transfusion).
