The pitch : David Lurie is a professor of romantic poetry at the University of Cape town, South Africa. Divorced, he indulges without restraint his attraction to women.
But the relationship he has with one of his students the causes of the scandal, so much so that David is forced to resign from his post.
He finds refuge at his daughter Lucy, who grows flowers on a farm isolated in the interior, a region that the Whites have left after the end of apartheid.
To continue to live in this beautiful scenery David and Lucy must bend to all kinds of trade-offs ; where the Whites were the masters of the past, their presence is now barely tolerated.
The day that David and Lucy suffer a aggression, David is the powerless witness of the rape of his daughter. Shocked, he realizes that the violence done to women in society and becomes aware of the abusive behavior that he himself has always had vis-à-vis them…
Disgrace was directed by Steve Jacobs (La Spagnola) with John Malkovich (Mister Showman, And After), Jessica Haines and Eriq Ebouaney (Thirst – This Is My Blood, 35 Rhums).
