The second week of the Festival has been even more intense than the first one during which I had seen 13 movies. Three years ago, I had seen a lot of movies, but I had not seen all those who were in competition. This year, I set myself as a challenge to see the 21 films selected in the Official Competition, plus a few extras. During this second week, I saw 15 movies, with additional, more two screenings of short films.
See the Official Competition
Do not turn around the pot, I reached my goal ! This year, I have seen the 21 feature films and even the 8 short films that will attempt to win their Palme d’or. On these eight movies, I had a blow of heart for the australian film All these creatures, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the excellent Caroline or Tariki were award-winning.
Side Long-feature films in competition, so I continued on my launched seeing the 12 remaining movies. I loved Lazaro Felice, A story of family, Asako 1 & 2, Under the silver lake, Dogman, Capernaum and The wild pear. I was even more surprised by the last one that I had a lot of fear : last film presented, it lasts over three hours, and most importantly, I had not really hooked up to Winter Sleep, which had allowed its director to win the Palme d’or a few years ago. Burning, war and Blackkklansman I have not particularly marked, while I don’t like Ayka, both in the way of filming it that in the narration. I can’t really pronounce myself on the confusing A knife in the heart, a genuine proposal for a film that exceeds the limits of kitsch, feel good turnip assumed, but succeeded all the same to ban it.
In most of these films in competition, I’ve also been seeing a few other films. Big fan of the saga, intergalactic, I couldn’t miss Solo Star Wars Story, that I have not found it unpleasant, in spite of the weaknesses are pretty obvious. I also saw The House that Jack Built, the film is controversial and provoc’ de Lars Von Trier who is, frankly, succeeded. Finally, I saw the comedy In the freedom of Pierre Salvadori. A small bead of absurd humor that is carried by the duo Pio Marmai / Adèle Haenel, who won the prize of the Quinzaine des réalisateurs.

Some choices were quite difficult, especially the one of not giving any price for the film, Kore Eda, the great A family resemblance, but the selection was high quality and he had to make a choice. I have long hesitated between Leto and Capernaum for the Palme d’or. The first was a stroke of heart is immediate, while the second is the movie that made me the most upset of the festival. The grand prix had initially been created to reward a film more accessible to the general public, it seemed logical to make this choice, even if I wouldn’t be at all disappointed if Capernaum went home with the Palme d’or.
My prognosis for the Winners of the Jury
Palme d’or : Lazzaro Felice

Prix de la mise en scene : Cold War
