Synopsis

In 1927, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont, two of the stars of the silent film, fly from one success to another and pretending to worship both the city and the screen. The reality is more sombre. Beast and wicked, Lina poisons the life of his partner. A jump in a taxi can still change many things. Don meets a charming ingenue Kathy Selden, while busy running the stamps in the music halls. Between the two young people, the lightning is immediate and reciprocal. Soon the life of Don and Kathy is transformed by love into a continuous succession of dances, games and laughter. The day where the producers announce their intention of making the next film from Lina and Gift a film speaking, the voice of the rattle of Lina requires him to find very quickly a lining…

Anecdotes

The film has enjoyed modest success in its output. Donald O’connor won the best actor award at the Golden Globes, and two screen writers Betty Comden and Adolph Green award for the Writers Guild of America Awards. It is only later on that he recognises his legendary status of a monument of the cinema. This film is today regarded as one of the best musicals ever created, sitting in first place of the best musical films of the AFI (American Film Institute) and in 2007 at the fifth place of the greatest american films.
